With the winter holiday season upon us, it’s a fine time to relax and read, perhaps with a roaring fire and a cat.
I thought it would be fun to wrap up 2023 with a short list of other newsletters about climate change that I’ve find valuable. Here are four worthwhile reads.
- Talking Climate with Katharine Hayhoe: One of my favorite newsletters. Katharine is a climate scientist, but her superpower is communicating about climate change and why folks should care about it. She offers tips for better conversations while explaining and “depolarizing” climate change. It’s available on Substack (free) and LinkedIn.
- The Climate Brink: I love great data and analysis. You’ll get both in this Substack from climate experts Zeke Hausfather and Andrew Dessler, who have a knack for translating complex climate topics and providing broader context for media coverage of climate-related trends and disasters.
- HeatMap: This independent climate news site launched in March, and immediately distinguished itself with its coverage of the wildfire smoke event in the Northeast. HeatMap was founded by experienced climate journalists from The Atlantic, Vox and Grist. It’s a subscription site, but you can sample the newsletters for free.
- The Crucial Years: Bill McKibben is an author and environmental activist who has been focused on climate for more than 30 years. The Crucial Years provides important context for many of today’s hot topics.
